Have your 'herd'? Two of Ryedale's finest annual festivals take place in July - time to get out and enjoy yourself!
One of our area’s biggest events, the Ryedale Show comes to Kirkbymoorside on Tuesday 25th July!
It will be rosettes at the ready for this lively event, which started back in 1855.
A traditional agricultural show, Ryedale is renowned for its very high standard of entries.
Held at Welburn Park in a natural amphitheatre, no less than eight ‘show rings’ will be running throughout the day, featuring livestock such as prime cattle, sheep, horses, pigs and goats.
And for those who are fans of smaller creatures, don’t forget the fur and feather tent, produce sections, children’s classes, sheep dog trials and the dog show for our four legged friends.
If you’re wanting some retail therapy, then around 200 trade stands will set up stall to tempt you into parting with your cash!
Whether you’re involved in agriculture or not, there is always a sense of pride when attending the Ryedale Show. The event is usually a high point in the farming calendar, when the best livestock are put ‘on show’ and rivalry between breeders can be fierce!
As with all shows, there’s bound to be some traffic congestion, and Welburn Park isn’t the easiest spot to get to. Book your taxi from either Pickering or Malton to save on the shoe leather. Show gates open 8.30am.
And did you know that Ryedale Festival is also taking place from 14th to 30th July with a wide range of concerts across the Ryedale region?
Find out more by visiting their website. Highlights for this year’s festival include broadcaster Terry Waite, historian Lucy Worsley and actor Simon Callow.
As there’s so much variety – and probably a glass of wine or two as well – book with Station Taxis to get you to and from the various venues of this remarkable festival.
